The Bridge is a residential facility located in southcentral Kentucky
with short and long-term programs that jump start people's recovery
from negative behavior patterns that sabotage their lives and
relationships.
AT THE BRIDGE, we believe that
codependence is the “dis-ease” underlying
many addictions and that it is only as we address people’s
codependency
issues that long-term recovery can be sustained. Therefore, part of our
focus is on core issues that create or contribute to relationship problems,
anxiety, depression and driven-ness or
compulsive behavior. Left untreated,
the following issues can compromise sobriety, putting chemically dependent
individuals at risk for relapse:
● Undue shame
● Lack of mature coping skills—
(arrested development)
● Repressed, backlogged emotions
● Lack of identity and self—esteem
● Lack of healthy boundaries
● A tendency to act in the extreme-immoderation
The Bridge to Recovery is a program of self-development for
people struggling with any negative habit: chemical dependence,
codependence, or
non-chemical dependencies.
THE BRIDGE TO RECOVERY was established in 1975 as a nonprofit
organization with the sole purpose of helping individuals and
families identify problems hindering their social, emotional,
and vocational development. In 1977, the Foundation purchased
a picturesque ninety acre site in Warren County, Kentucky, as
a permanent home for The Bridge.
The founders’ vision was to create a program of recovery from
unhealthy dependencies geared to the needs of young people reared
in conservative religious families who had become alienated from
family, church, and God for various reasons, including substance
abuse. As time went on and the success of the program became
well known, the target group became broader.
In the last thirty years, our model has evolved into an effective
growth process for people who grew up in alcoholic, workaholic,
and other kinds of
“driven” systems and are currently trapped in
negative behavior patterns of their own. Our program creates the
nurturing and guidance necessary for such individuals to achieve
reasonably high levels of self-esteem and social effectiveness. It
also serves as an excellent relapse prevention program for chemically
dependent people. Sustainable recovery is the over-all goal.
