12 Step Organizations
AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) was the first 12 step organization to provide real hope and help for people with the disease of addiction. Since its founding in 1939 it has become the foundation for a 12 step movement that today has millions of members world wide. AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) has also provided a solid foundation for the development of other 12 step groups for a variety of addictions. AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) is also the basis for 12 step support organizations for people who have a relationship with an addict and need support and recovery for themselves.

These 12 step organizations are listed below. If there is a 12 step support group for people related to an addict the two groups are listed together.

Interventionists
It's difficult for addicts to break the vicious cycle of self-destructive behavior and even more difficult for them to understand the ripple effect their behavior has on family and friends. When a loved one is in pain-and you are too-and you can no longer bear to just sit and do nothing but you don't know what to do, contacting an interventionist may be your best course of action.

What is an intervention? Is there more than one kind?
How do you know when an intervention is needed?
What is the goal of an intervention and what does an intervention look like?

These questions and more are answered at www.interventions-helpline.com. Inquirers may also call their toll free number (1-800-758-5877) for referals throughout the U.S.
