A Residential Workshop Model with a
Treatment Mindset

At the heart of The Bridge to Recovery is a workshop model that combines experiential therapies with a treatment mindset. With over five decades of experience, the program focuses on helping clients heal from unresolved trauma, making it one of the few programs worldwide dedicated solely to trauma and codependency.

The Bridge to Recovery’s outreach efforts span the country, fostering relationships with therapists, treatment programs, family programs, and interventionists. With set admission dates every other Monday, the program admits small groups of up to 10 individuals during each admission cycle. The closed group model ensures a safe and secure environment for clients to engage deeply in their healing journey.

The group model at The Bridge to Recovery emphasizes the power of small, closed groups, creating a community where individuals can connect, empathize, and heal together. Diverse in age and gender, group members share a commonality of underlying and unresolved pain, fostering authentic healing. The clinical model, designed by Co-Founder Carol Cannon, is evidence-based and continually updated to incorporate advances in trauma care.

Recognizing that the healing journey is ongoing, The Bridge to Recovery provides a dedicated aftercare team and alumni program. Clients become part of the Bridge family for a lifetime, receiving ongoing support, referrals, and connections. The aftercare team assists in building an aftercare toolbox, ensuring a successful transition back home.

Understanding the uniqueness of each individual’s healing journey, The Bridge to Recovery offers a minimum length of stay of two weeks. Clients have the flexibility to extend their stay based on personal needs, collaborating with counselors and support teams to make informed choices. This open-ended process allows for natural unfolding of the healing process, avoiding time limitations and fostering long-term recovery.

The Group Process

Our residential mental health program employs a workshop model with a unique group process that has proven successful over five decades. Contrary to common misconceptions about group therapy, this process ensures that individuals work through the program's curriculum as a group but apply it to their individual situations. The closed admission dates and limited group size create a safe and intimate space for genuine connections, often leading to lifelong friendships and support systems.

Just an hour and 20 minutes North from Nashville, Tennessee sits our healing refuge. Hidden away on 120 acres of rolling Kentucky hills.

Our Unique Approach to
Residential Mental Health Therapy

The Bridge to Recovery takes pride in its unique approach to mental health therapy, focusing on experiential modalities to address unresolved trauma. The power of experiential therapy lies in its hands-on, immersive, and expressive tools that uncover, discover, and heal underlying issues. The diverse therapeutic modalities include group therapy, wellness & holistic therapies, narrative therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and more.

Power of Experiential

Unlike programs that primarily address issues like substance abuse or eating disorders, The Bridge to Recovery's modalities are centered around healing trauma. Experiential work involves hands-on, immersive activities that help individuals explore and express their emotions. The program believes in a comprehensive and personalized approach, tailoring therapeutic modalities to each individual's unique needs.

A Foundation for Healing

At the core of The Bridge to Recovery's approach is the emphasis on group work. During Phase 1, the maximum number of participants is limited to 10 individuals, creating an intimate and supportive environment. What distinguishes The Bridge is that if individuals progress through all three phases, the group remains the same throughout, fostering a sense of consistency, connection, and trust.

The initial phase, “Uncover & Discover,” is a crucial step in the healing journey. Participants focus on learning about and exploring their personal trauma in a safe and supportive group setting. This phase sets the foundation for trust and connection among group members, creating a space where individuals can share and begin their healing journey.

Building upon the foundation laid in Phase 1, “Digging Deeper” is where participants delve into understanding how trauma has manifested in their lives. This phase equips individuals with the tools to set boundaries and build their own toolbox for coping. The group dynamic remains constant, allowing for a deepening sense of connection and support.

The final phase, “Self-Guided Healing,” is a culmination of the work done in the previous phases. Participants engage in peer-supported healing and discovery, fostering a sense of autonomy in their healing journey. The continuity of the group throughout all three phases ensures a consistent and reliable support system.

Wellness & Holistic Therapies

The commitment to holistic healing is evident in The Bridge to Recovery's diverse array of Wellness Therapies. These therapeutic modalities address emotional, psychological, physical, and spiritual dimensions. Music therapy, yoga, body movement, expressive arts therapy, meditation, and self-love work contribute to a comprehensive and impactful therapeutic experience.

Narrative therapy is a collaborative approach to trauma therapy that empowers individuals to reshape and reconstruct their life narratives. By externalizing problems and reframing traumatic experiences, clients co-author empowering narratives emphasizing resilience and personal agency. This approach fosters identity reconstruction and facilitates the development of a positive and hopeful life story.

CBT is a goal-oriented therapeutic approach widely utilized in trauma therapy. Emotional responses and behaviors can be positively influenced by identifying and modifying negative thought patterns. Trauma-focused CBT at The Bridge to Recovery empowers individuals to manage distressing emotions, break the cycle of negative thinking, and regain control over their lives.
