Here is the interesting thing about phase of life events: they happen to everyone. All of us experience some sort of phase of life event, and many of us experience a lot of them. But, how we navigate through those events is impacted by many factors, including:

For our purposes here, it is important to understand the correlation between unresolved trauma and the difficulty it can create when trying to navigate phase of life events.

In summary, when trauma occurs, especially during developmentally critical times, our response systems can become impaired and vulnerable. As we progress in life, those response systems usually do not serve us well, and we rely on negative patterns of behavior to help us navigate.
