The Two-Week Rolling Window

Our campus, located less than a two-hour drive from Louisville, employs a number of unique therapeutic practices for the benefit of our clients. We are not like most mental health programs. The Bridge uses a unique workshop model to help individuals find healing.

Every two weeks—every other Monday, to be more precise—a new workshop group embarks on a tremendous journey. We find that a cohesive group fosters an invaluable sense of camaraderie among clients, giving them amazing support as they attend daily therapies. If you complete all three phases of our workshop, you’ll be working alongside the same people  you met on your first day here.

Clients live in our comfortable living quarters, situated between the beautiful rolling Kentucky hills. We ask each client to commit to a minimum stay of two weeks, but the last thing you’ll see any of our staff doing is pushing residents away after a set amount of time. The work you do on yourself while at The Bridge can feel like surgery on your emotions, and recovery should be on YOUR timeline. Our staff works closely with each client to determine an optimal end date for our residential workshop program.

Just an hour and 20 minutes North from Nashville, Tennessee sits our healing refuge. Hidden away on 120 acres of rolling Kentucky hills.

What Can We Help With?

That is not an exhaustive list by any means. Our staff is prepared to support those who struggle with a wide array of mental health conditions.

What is Offered at The Bridge to Recovery?

The Bridge helps clients begin their healing journey by using well-defined, evidence-based therapies—some of which you may have heard of. While each client has specific needs and goals, we’d like to highlight a few practices commonly used at our Louisville area campus.

There is almost nothing as effective as group therapy for people with family of origin trauma and childhood wounds. We keep our residential groups as cohesive as possible so clients can build authentic connections with their peers. Active listening and reflection are crucial in anyone’s recovery journey.

Two therapists help lead most group sessions and guide discussions through topics like family of origin trauma and intense emotions. You will meet people from all backgrounds, which can provide unique perspectives on life and recovery. Groups consist of no more than 10 people, which is conducive to honest and effective discussions.

Horses are amazing creatures that can give us profound insights into our behaviors and mental health. As Kentucky is known for its magnificent horses, equine therapy at The Bridge is a natural fit for our clients. Beyond picking up on subconscious feelings and helping to surface emotions, horses embody a nonjudgmental vessel through which clients can discover self-truths and hone essential social skills. Clients often gain greater self-esteem, trust, and impulse control, as well.

The experiences we have in our early years do more to shape our adult behaviors than almost anything else. There are so many ways a child can experience pain due to a lack of nurturing, and that pain almost always manifests itself in adulthood. Our staff works tirelessly with clients to help them recognize adverse childhood and family events, understand their effects, and, eventually, let go of that decades-long pain. Whole family healing is vital for any client’s recovery.

The Bridge to Recovery’s Approach

Our clients’ journeys with The Bridge generally follow a multi-phase workshop model. Each phase helps clients confront the role of family of origin trauma, codependency, and other challenging factors in their lives. Here are the ways each phase unfolds.

Phase One: Uncover and Discover

The first phase is essentially a fact-finding mission. Clients learn to recognize past trauma and how it affects their current behaviors. Bonding with group mates and allowing vulnerability is also a key component of the first phase.

Phase Two: Digging Deeper

After the first phase, clients dive deep into unresolved trauma and ways they may have unwittingly passed it on to loved ones. They begin to understand how to set boundaries and otherwise manage challenging feelings and emotions.
